“My name is jessica and I am a service connected veteran with the united states army. I have three children..( son 9, daughter 7, and a daugther 4). After leaving my abusive husband in northern california I found that it was ALOT harder then I expected to start over. We stayed in my car and even in a family members garage until I was able to afford a place of my own. With limited resources and income, my cousin gave me a number to second chances for a food box. They had helped her with Easter baskets and food and knew they would help me. When they came to my home it was bare. No beds.no furniture whats so ever and sad to say it..no food.  After explaining my situation and a few tears shed they came that night with pizza and blow up beds for me and my children. But the blessings from them didnt stop there. EVERY day if not every other day they have kept in constant contact with me. My house now feels like a home with beds, curtains, sheets, towels, a sectional couch, everything I could possibly need for my kitchen and toiletries. Without them I was losing hope and even debating going back to a man that beat me for 7 years. These wonderful people not only saved my life..but my kids as well. There are not enough words to say thank you and show my appreciation.  But I will start with this...THANK YOU SECOND CHANCE....”

"We've been in California a couple of months before meeting you guys from High Desert Second Chance. We came from Oregon leaving friends, family, and my only home I've ever known to start a new life with my boyfriend. I never thought my life would be being homeless, & nowhere to go. We did the best we could to put a roof over our head and get us food. Yes, we had trouble along the way. All of our belongings & ID's were stolen and we still couldn't find help until you found us hungry with no clothes. For the last 6 months you have been bringing us food, clothing, and helping us with places to stay. You guys have always been there for us no matter what we got ourselves into without judging us. When my boyfriend had to take care of things that he had done in his past you took me and my dog into a place we call home. You have helped me to get my life back on track, helping me to get my ID and to get work. We will always be indebted to you. Thank you High Desert Second Chance."
